Words for a Thursday

“I fell in love with her courage, her sincerity, and her flaming self respect. And it’s these things I’d believe in, even if the whole world indulged in wild suspicions that she wasn’t all she should be. I love her and that’s the beginning and end of everything.”
~F. Scott Fitzgerald, Letter to Isabelle Amorous, Feb. 1920

Brilliant words from the great Katharine Hepburn

One of the books I’m reading at the moment is Katharine Hepburn’s biography ME. I’m only a few chapters in, but it’s a fascinating read. Her writing is pretty much a reflection of how she was in life–so much so, you can practically hear her voice in your head as you read. She’s funny, witty and full of character; not to mention as straightforward as they come. The passage below is a motto she lived by, which was passed down to her from her mother:

“Don’t give in. Fight for your future. Independence is the only solution. Women are as good as men. Onward! You don’t have too much money, but you do have independent spirits. Knowledge! Education! Don’t give in! Make your own trail. Don’t moan. Don’t complain. Think positively.”

Now there’s some advice we could all certainly live by.
